Juan Soto is the Homerun Derby King

Last night we were all excited to see if Polar Bear Pete would Three-Peat as the Homerun Derby Champ! It would have been the first time anyone had done so. Unfortunately he was upset by Mariner’s Rookie Julio Rodriguez who knocked 31 to Alonso’s 23 in the 2nd round.

Another upset was #8 seed Albert Pujols “The Machine” taking down the #1 seed Kyle Schwarber 20 to 19! They ended in a tie, and had a “swing off” to see who could hit the most in one minute with the winner moving on. This was Pujol’s 5th Homerun Derby and his “Farewell tour.”

Rodriguez came out guns blazing hitting 32 in his first round (the most of any Rookie in history), 31 in his second round, and 18 in the Finals where he met Juan Soto.

Rodriguez finished the night with an impressive 81 bombs, compared to Soto’s 53. Keep in mind, with Soto always being the higher seed in each round, he only needed to reach the cut off number of his opponent to win!
