Judge Hits #55 to Break Tie with A-Rod & Mantle

With his 55th homerun hit this season off in the 4th inning against the Twins, Judge broke the tie with Alex Rodriguez (set in 2007) and Mickey Mantle (set in 1961, switch hitter) for most Homeruns hit in a single season by a right-handed hitter! Babe Ruth (60) and Roger Maris (61) are the only two Yankees left to beat. Judge is on pace to hit 65!
Since 2002 there have been a whopping 13 instances of 50+ Homeruns. 1998-2001 while there were 11 instances, the proportions are skewed due to Performance Enhancing Drugs. Take those 4 years out of the equation, and it’s obvious that we are in the biggest Homerun hitting era in history!
1901-1994 (94 seasons) = 18 players with 50+
1995-2006 (12 seasons) = 21 players with 50+ Homeruns but 11 of those were in a 4 year period (1998-2001 PED era)
Most HR in a season, MLB history — with totals through 136 team games:
2001 Barry Bonds: 73 — 57
1998 Mark McGwire: 70 — 54
1998 Sammy Sosa: 66 — 53
2022 Aaron Judge: 65 (current pace) — 55
1999 Mark McGwire: 65 — 54
2001 Sammy Sosa: 64 — 53
1999 Sammy Sosa: 63 — 58
1961 Roger Maris: 61 — 53
1927 Babe Ruth: 60 — 49
