One of the biggest buzzwords we hear in baseball today is launch angle. Whether you’re watching the latest round of the MLB playoffs, or at the diamond in your hometown watching a game, I can almost guarantee that the word launch angle is going to come up.

Check out the video below for a short video of Coach Lisle explaining his thoughts and how he approaches launch angle with his hitters:

A hot topic in today’s baseball and softball world is the word “launch angle,” and a lot of people are talking about the “launch angle swing.”

Well, I have news for you–every swing is a launch angle swing. Every swing has a launch angle.

Launch angle is just a measurable, just like the miles per hour is to the pitch.

It’s just something that we use as measuring, something that we can have in our toolbox, something that we can talk about to help our hitters get better.

In the cages, a lot of times we have balls that go right back to the back of the cage, and the launch angle might be 5 degrees, and that was something that was caught by the shortstop. (Coach Lisle shows you how to improve your launch angle in The Hitting Vault.)

So knowing what the actual launch angles are in your cages can really help, too. I hear a lot of Major League players talking about that they don’t focus on launch angle. It’s not something that is important to them. And that’s great. It’s not something the players need to be focused on. But as a hitting coach or someone who’s a scout or a parent, launch angle helps us to be able to measure what is their swing like. What are the results.

If I have a hitter that I feel like I want them to hit more line drives in the air and their launch angles are consistently down and to the ground, as a hitting coach, I can use that data to really work in on their swing.

With The Hitting Vault, launch angle is something that just comes naturally. We teach a swing in The Hitting Vault that is a nice, high line drive swing. That’s going to get us that nice launch angle of 10 to 15 degrees. Sometimes we’ll have a launch angle of higher. Sometimes we’ll have a launch angle of lower. But it’s not something that you have to focus on.

And so when it comes to launch angle, the best advice I have for you is to learn about it. Learn about how it can help you to be a better coach.

Accept launch angle. It’s going to be here.

It’s going to be something that’s going to help the game of baseball and softball out, and it’s not something to be afraid of or something to be against, because again, every swing has a launch angle, and launch angle is just a measurable.
